- Hula Hoop Party Highlights
What a weekend! Thanks to everyone involved in making the 2012 Tween Party and Hula Hoop Contest the success that it was.
Here’s a video of the hula hoop contest highlights, featuring some super talented young ladies that really know how to “play like a girl!”
Here’s a handful of our favorite photos:

You can see the rest in our Facebook album.
Somehow, we didn’t manage to snap a pic of the DELICIOUS confectionery delights from Tribeca Treats (probably because we were mostly concerned with eating them). Instead, we’ve chosen a photo that best illustrates the experience of eating one of their red velvet cupcakes:
Seriously. Go get one.
A special thanks to: Sarah Mlynowski, Mike & Tara from Painted Armor for the awesome airbrushing, Tribeca Treats for the snacks, the blogs and local media (Triple Threat Mommy, Stroller in the City, Tribeca Citizen, A Child Grows, Macaroni Kid, Mommy Poppins, TONY Kids) and of course, all of our neighbors, guests and contestants!
- Torly Kid's 4th Annual Tween Party and Hula Hoop Contest is Saturday, May 12
(invitation design by Stephanie Luscombe)
Get ready! What began as a mere hula hoop contest has evolved into Torly Kid’s most anticipated event of the year, the annual Tween Party! We’re beyond excited for all of the great activities and giveaways we’ve got in store for kids ages 7 and up:
11 AM: Meet author Sarah Mlynowski
Sarah is the author of the bestselling YA series, Magic in Manhattan, (Bras & Broomsticks, Frogs & French Kisses, Spells & Sleeping Bags, and Parties & Potions). She’ll be reading and signing copies of her brand new book, Fairest of All, the first volume in the Whatever After series. Fairest of All will be in stores in May 2012, but if you want to get a sneak peek right now, stop by Torly Kid to pick up a three-chapter sampler. Learn more about Sarah and her books at SarahM.com.
12 NOON: Hula hoop and jump rope contest
Who will be crowned the champion hula hooper? This year, we’re getting crazy and adding jump rope to the mix. We’ve got prizes for the winners who can handle all the tricks we have up our sleeves.
1 – 3 PM: French braiding and manicures
Relax after all the hoopin’ and jumpin’ by getting your choice of French braid styles in your hair (free) and a cool nail art design on your digits ($3). Get in line early: Last year, we were braiding and nail painting non-stop.
ALL DAY (11 AM – 4 PM): Custom airbrush designs by Mike Barile of Kustom Camp/Painted Armor
It’s a simple fact: when it comes to airbrush designs, Mike Barile of Kustom Camp/Painted Armor is where it’s at! The second we saw these awesomely bold neon designs, we knew we had to book him. Designs start at $6 and can be applied to a Torly Kid neon canvas bag (free, while supplies last) or lots of other gear available for purchase. See more examples of Mike’s art at PaintedArmorMike.com.
In addition to the events mentioned above, we’ll be giving away cupcakes from Tribeca Treats and raffling off great prizes every hour (you can enter early by visiting Torly Kid).

See ya at the Tween Party! Bring a friend (or two…or five).
